Viacom Sees a Softer Scatter Market in November, Recovers in December

Viacom's Q4 earnings call included the first discussion of scatter cable prices so far, with the company reporting a 3 percent increase in the market "tempered somewhat by ratings at MTV in a softer marketplace in the month of November," according to Philippe Dauman, president and CEO of the company. Dauman pointed instead to the international market, which is growing at a faster clip than domestic and helped to offset some of the losses.

NFL to Launch Ad-Supported Digital Network

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday announced plans to launch a new digital network called NFL Now, which will stream original content to a range of connected devices that includes everything from smartphones to Xboxes. A spokesman confirmed to Adweek that the app will be ad-supported, though possibly not on its higher tier, where a fee will apply.

The pressure is mounting on the Federal Communications Commission to revisit how it will regulate net neutrality in the wake of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals decision that tossed the rules back in the regulator's lap. On Thursday, Free Press and more than 80 other organizations, including ACLU, Common Cause, ColorofChange, Demand Progress, and even the Harry Potter Alliance, delivered a petition to the FCC at the conclusion of the agency's monthly meeting.
